The second most gluttonous eating occasion after Thanksgiving is the Super Bowl. The average American consumes 2,400 calories during the game, according to the Calorie Control Council. It may seem like a lot, but consider the calories in some of our favorite dips, and what we eat them with.
Some calories are certainly healthier than others, but if we are talking about the numbers, four tablespoons of French onion (enough for eight chips) has 120 calories. A popular queso dip recipe contains 160 calories in the same amount, while Tostitos Creamy Spinach Dip packs 100 calories.
And remember, that is hardly an average serving size.
Then, consider the foods doing the dipping, like the average corn, potato, or pita chips, which have 140-160 calories for a small serving.
While you might say “skip the dip” and opt for wings or pizza, there are some healthier dip options that can be fun to eat and serve during the game.
