STEP #1: APPLY A PRIMER
The first thing you should do before applying any eye shadow is to apply a makeup primer—or more specifically, an eye shadow primer. An eye makeup primer will prevent your shadow from creasing, allow each shade to appear more vibrant, and help your eye makeup last all day long.
STEP #2: KEEP IT NEUTRAL
When it comes to creating the illusion of bigger eyes with eye shadow, lighter, more neutral shades will be your best friend. Start by applying a neutral brown shade, like the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Matte It Up, to your lids.
STEP #3: HIGHLIGHT
Similar to how you highlight your face, you want to use eye shadow to highlight certain parts of your eyes in order to give them a larger look. For this step, select a white or light ivory eye shadow, like the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow in Paris Beach. Apply the eye shadow to the inner corner of your eye, below the arch of your eyebrows, and on the center of your eyelid to leave your eyes appearing more open and awake.
STEP #4: CONTOUR
After you’ve highlighted your eyes, it’s time to contour! Use a darker brown shade, like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible 24 HR Eye Shadow in Bronzed Taupe, to define your eyes. Apply the shadow just slightly above the crease of your eye to create the illusion that your eyes are larger. Drag the shadow upwards and outwards for a brown smoky eye that will widen the appearance of your eyes. Take the same dark brown eye shadow and apply it along your lower lash line from the outer corner to the middle of your eye.
3 OTHER EYE MAKEUP PRODUCTS THAT MAKE EYES LOOK BIGGER
While eye shadow does a great job making your eyes appear bigger than they actually are, there are other eye makeup products that can take your wide-eyed makeup look to the next level. Here are three additional makeup products to add to your big-eyed beauty routine:
1. NUDE PENCIL EYELINER
Your eye shadow look may be complete, but you can still use eyeliner to leave your eyes with an even bigger appearance. Use the L’Oréal Paris Pro-Last Waterproof Pencil Eyeliner in Nude to line your waterline. The nude shade will make the whites of your eyes appear larger. Even better, the nude shade will help give you a wide awake, well-rested look.
2. LENGTHENING MASCARA
No eye makeup look is complete without mascara. To start, use a lash primer like the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara Primer/Base to give your lashes extra length, volume, and drama. Once you’ve applied your lash primer, it’s time to finish the look with your mascara of choice. Use a volumizing and lengthening mascara like the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mystic Black to contribute to your wide-awake look. Start with the brush placed at the base of your lashes and work your way toward the tips to completely cover your lashes with the lengthening formula. For added drama, don’t stop just yet, apply more than one coat of mascara.
3. BROW DEFINING DUO
Defining your eyebrows is another way to visually enhance the size of your eyes. Use a highlighting brow product, like the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Brow Raiser Highlighter Duo, to draw attention to your eyebrows and elongate your eyes. Start by applying the concealer around the edges of your brows to define and sharpen their shape. Then, apply the shimmer highlighter above and below the arch of your brow, blending out for a natural look.
